GUNDALA Son of Thunder

Gundala Putra Petir' was first released in 1969. The character Gundala was created by Harya Suraminata (Hasmi). Adapting the development of foreign comics, Hasmi made 'Gundala' with local wisdom. The story of Gundala is not only influenced by foreign comics. Hasmi was inspired by the Javanese legend, Ki Ageng Selo. Ki Ageng Selo is a powerful figure who is able to catch lightning with his hands. The name 'Gundala' itself is taken from the Javanese 'Gundolo' which means lightning.

Sancaka is a scientist who is conducting research to create an anti-lightning serum. Drowning in his ambition as a scientist, he forgets the birthday of Minarti, his lover, which results in their breaking up. A heartbroken Sancaka ran with a troubled heart in the pouring rain. Suddenly a lightning struck him. In a coma he was pulled by a force from another planet and adopted by the king of the Lightning Kingdom who had the title Emperor Kronz, as well as being blessed with the super ability of being able to emit thunder from the palm of his hand. The Typhoon King of the Bayu Kingdom gave him the power to run as fast as the wind.

Since then, at certain times, he has emerged as a crime-fighting hero dressed in tight black with red shoes and loincloth. His face was covered by a mask, only his eyes and mouth were visible, on the sides of his mask there were decorations like the wings of a bird.
